Entrainment to Fix Atrial Fibrillation

Robert Ellis, writing on the site “Living with Atrial Fibrillation,” introduced me to a new idea.

Entrainment. He claims this can fix atrial fibrillation.

Atrial fibrillation is an abnormality of the heart rhythm where your heart beats fast and irregularly and often doesn’t pump blood around your circulation very efficiently so you get dizzy, short of breath, and possibly chest pain due to inadequate blood supply to the heart muscle. It also predisposes to blood clots and strokes.

If you're suffering from atrial fibrillation and you listen to someone else’s normal heart beat (which is much easier if you have a stethoscope) he claims it will “entrain” your heart back into a normal rhythm.

He talks about how he was fibrillating at a time when he was all stressed out about exams, and no treatment he tried would fix it. But when he fell asleep listening to his wife’s “slow steady heartbeat loud and reassuring in my ears” he had converted back to normal sinus rhythm when he woke up.
