Zapping peoples brains with electricity is a popular sport. It is being tried in deep brain stimulation to control the tremor of Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's, Tourette's syndrome, aberrant behaviors, depression and seizures - and probably a whole lot more.
Deep brain stimulation and this novel treatment for PTSD is a bit of a gentler business than the dreaded ECT - electro-convulsive therapy given to mostly severely depressed patients to induce a seizure, and apparently shake up the brain in a kind of desperate attempt to hope things fall back into place in a healthier state - though no body quite knows why electrocuting the brain works, even ECT does help some people - even though it sounds like something from a Gene Wilder movie.
But read about how UCLA is trying a bit of brain zapping to treat our troubled veterans - and civilians. Go to http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/01/160128074309.htm
